Warning

GRAPHIC VIDEO

I realize this is a very gross video, but Nate really wanted me to post it. Last night Kate slipped and fell in the tub and bit all the way through her tongue. It was really traumatic. I don't do well with stuff like that. I can never relax and think clearly in emergency situations. Thank goodness Nate was home. We decided to head to the ER even though we both thought there might not be anything they could do.

On the way, Nate called his brother who looked up cases on the internet and saw that usually they don't do stitches or anything and the tongue heals really fast, so we decided not to take her in. I wasn't sure if that was the right decision or not because it would still bleed when she would stick it out or even talk sometimes. But we decided to just give her some ibuprofin and put her to bed.

This morning it is not bleeding at all, but it's still a big open wound obviously. Nate has talked to a couple doctors that he knows and they think it will heal OK on it's own. I hope they're right. I feel so bad for her. She doesn't seem to be in pain, but it just looks really awful.

Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh! Oh my gosh, that is just terrible! I love Nate at the end "all right, that's enough, that's enough, that's enough!" Ha ha ha. Poor little girl. And poor YOU. I am traumatised after seeing that, and she's not my kid. :(

Oh my goodness!!! Kids are amazing when it comes to pain. Two weeks ago Jordan fell and cut the piece of skin that attaches your gum to your upper lip, amazingly it has grown back already and she didn't seem to notice. Glad nate was there for you. Heal quickly Kate!!

We had this happen with Curie. I just called the on-call pediatrician, and they told me the same thing that you discovered. It's been over a year now and she has a cute scar on her tongue, but no other complications. Very, very scary moment. And Nick was not home, so you are lucky. Oh, they did suggest feeding her very bland, mushy food for a while (no vinegars, etc.).

I hesitated but watched the video anyway...how sad and how yuck! I'm glad Nate was home. I don't know how I would handle that by myself. Poor girl :(

That's pretty gross. Haha I hope she heals quickly. Ew, she has to taste blood constantly. Was this video taken soon after it happened or is it still bleeding?

aaaahhh... that would be scary. Tex almost bit through his tongue about a year ago. He was mad and went to bite his own sleeve and ended up biting his tongue. At the time I thought there was nothing the dr's could do about it, and then in the morning when it looked all nasty and white I wondered if I made the right decision, but his healed just fine and we never went to the dr. How is she doing now? I realize you posted this 2 weeks ago and I'm just now seeing it. If Jonathon weren't home and that happened to me, I would have definitely freaked out too. yikes.
